He’s Alive!

Matthew 28:1-10
Jesus Is Risen!
1. Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave.
2. And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.
3. And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.
4. The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men.
5. The angel said to the women, “ Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.
6. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.
7. Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”
8. And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples.
9. And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.
10. Then Jesus *said to them, “ Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me.”

What stunning words these must have been to Jesus’ disciples.

He is Risen? Jesus is Alive? How could that be, they had just seen Him crucified and left on a cross to die? They had seen the blood running down His face from the crown of thorns pounded into His head. They had wept when His hands and feet gnarled up in pain from the spikes being driven through them. And when the soldier drove his spear into Jesus, they had fallen to the ground in anguish...

When Mary went to the tomb to prepare Jesus’s body for His final entombment she found the tomb empty and an angel waiting for her but Jesus was no longer there. His burial wrappings were on the floor but Jesus was no longer there. And then came the announcement: He is Risen!

As the other disciples were mourning the loss of their Friend, they got the news. He’s Alive! But how could He be Alive? We saw Him die... The questions were filling their minds. Had Mary lost her mind in grief watching her son being so brutally executed? Are the soldiers arresting all of His followers? Will we all be killed next? Has Mary lost her mind? Has Mary lost her mind???

They ran in confusion to the empty tomb but Jesus was gone, He had Risen just as He said that He would! Hallelujah! He’s Alive!

And Jesus began appearing to many more of His followers

And every fear they’d ever had just melted into Peace!
